Using Forge Ahead to Improve Your Bottom Line
Benefits
Adding a quality business management program to your toolbox provides two primary benefits:
Time and
Money
TIME BENEFITS:
After initially setting up the program and learning your way around, Forge Ahead will begin to save you significant amounts of time every week, with an additional time savings at tax preparation time. Here's how:
|
Eliminate Repetition
|
Names, addresses, prices, etc. are only typed one time. In any part of the program, wherever you need to specify which client, which horse, which service and price, Forge Ahead presents you with a drop-down list, and you simply click on the one you need.
In addition to saving time, this eliminates typing errors and makes your work consistent. Since you only type "Aluminum shoes - 4" one time, then select it wherever necessary, it always looks the same.

Multi-Purpose Information
|
Many people (and some computer programs!) think of tasks like "billing for work completed" and "scheduling future work" as separate things, and in one sense they are. But there is important information from one that can make the other easier, and good software should take advantage of these situations.
For example...
In Forge Ahead, the task of creating a bill for work performed on a horse automatically updates the horse's Last Visit date. That date is used in scheduling to inform you of when the horse is due to be serviced next.
Another example of sharing information from different parts of the program: the Daily Appointments report lets you know if any of your appointments owe you money, and if so, how much.

Organization of Important Records
|
Building on the previous point, Forge Ahead will let you input data at the most convenient point(s) in the system, and will pull together data that you need to review in the most meaningful ways.
Simply by creating invoices for all work performed, you are also building detailed histories for each horse. But you don't need to look through old invoices when you want to review what's been done to a horse, you simply click a button to create a history report customized for that horse.
Your data is organized and easily accessible, and information won't get lost or mis-filed like paper will.

Easier Tax Preparation
|
Finanacial reports can be run at any time, to include any time period you specify. Pick the report, the time period, and click to view financial transactions (items billed, money received, expenses). These reports quickly summarize your business activity and provide totals necessary for tax preparation.

MONETARY BENEFITS:
Above are some of the main ways in which Forge Ahead can save you lots of time. And while we all know that "time is money", there are some other ways a quality program like Forge Ahead can improve your business' bottom line:
|
Never Lose an Unpaid Bill
|
With Forge Ahead, you will never lose track of the fact that John Doe still owes you for the work three months ago, even if he's forgotten it.
In Forge Ahead, one click takes you to "The Aging" report, which is an accountant's term for who owes you how much, and how long they've owed it. This is a quick way for you to get a handle on what should be coming in.
It is also easy to create Statements or an Account History for clients, as reminders of where their account stands.

Improve Cash Flow
|
The quicker you get paid for your work, the better. Forge Ahead can supply you with the structure and information necessary to improve your cash flow.
Depending on what you're doing now and how you use the program, this can happen in different ways.
- Perhaps the fact that invoices can be created so quickly with the program allows you to get them out daily instead of weekly.
- Maybe the Aging report helps you stay on top of outstanding bills, so they don't linger for months before you realize they're overdue.
- Perhaps the professional-looking invoices and monthly statements signal your clients that you take your business seriously -- and they should also.

Analyze Your Business
|
Over time, the program will accumulate enough information to provide a big picture of what's happening in your business, and make changes if necessary. Financial reports, in particular, can help you make decisions in areas such as prices you charge, the effect of getting better prices on supplies, and the cost of dropping particular clients.
